HOW FAR CAN I BROADCAST?
When transmitting a radio broadcast signal in the commercial AM band, different Federal regulations apply. These vary depending on your status (licensed or unlicensed, individual, institution, government agency, etc.) desired coverage range and frequency.

The use of an external antenna effectively extends the broadcast range up to and beyond 1 mile. Since the antenna is not extended and the output power is not increased, no broadcast license is required and there are no programming restrictions. Special frequencies and allocations in the FM band have been made available on a license basis for educational broadcasters. Part 90 of the Federal Communication Commission allows a 10 watt license in the AM band available to local state and federal agencies for travelers information services.
